[hackerspaces] Do-ocracy at 140 members?

The idea of mitosis is interesting.

Are there any examples of a hackerspace enacting an amicable split in the
same region? Maybe even going as far as seeding equipment resources and
start-up funds to a portion of their membership to jumpstart a new space?

Seems like there's some possible benefits to a mitosis concept. Scaling
down both spaces to more manageable limits of do-ocracy. Increase overall
participation in hackerspaces by spreading geographic access.. And not have
all your hackers in one basket, as it were.

I'm curious if this has happened before.
