Hey,

I forgot to mention that there is an interesting Ubuntu based project:

"Ubuntu NGO" https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NGO

The aim is to provide either an Ubuntu flavor or a package repository 
with a bunch of pre packaged applications for NGOs, which, in this case, 
is quite similar to hacker spaces as it means non-profit organizations.

Think this might get a useful resource for bootstrapping from scratch.
