Howdy, HackerMoms. Since last week...

   - San Francisco Magazine came to interview us for at least a
   blurb-worthy piece.
   - Construction for soundproofing the childcare room will happen next
week, so that we can hopefully work in relative peace and quiet. Feel free
to add your thanks to the donation bra or button.
   - Some new HackerMoms on the Peninsula have discovered us and now want
to start a HackerMoms space in their area! Along with requests from as far
as Portland, Florida, New Jersey, Tokyo and Norway. Long live HackerMoms!
We'll get some guideline materials up for y'all. (But if you're in town,
check out our workshop on "50 Different Ways to Run a Hackerspace"
   happening next week.)
   - Don't forget our ongoing Monday morning Art Date and Wednesday night
Math Club in our Events page <http://mothership.hackermoms.org/events/>.
(Words I never thought I'd say: Math club kickoff last week was so cool. We
were tearfully convinced that with the help of Khan Academy and peer
tutoring, even we could learn math! Join us? We start from 1+1.)
   - And while the babes slept, we pulled up the nasty industrial carpet
from the main room to reveal the pristine Pergo below.

   - And new workshops below.

POWER TO THE MOTHERS!

*Sun June 3, 2-5pm – DIY Handmade Journals/Creative Bookmaking
*HackerMom/arts educator Brooke shows us how to assemble, sew, and design a
small book to be used as a diary or sketchbook. Using simple art techniques
we will create colorful, creative pages that will inspire your writing or
drawing. No skill level too low. Materials: Feel free to bring: special
collage materials, fancy papers, envelopes, paint, letter stamps, old
credit or library cards, or anything you want to add to your book.
Free for HackerMoms, $15 for non-members, $2 materials fee covers special
bookmaking glue & thread, all other materials free

*Tues, 6/5, 6-8 pm** **One-hour Web Coding Basics Series: Javascript
*Final session in the series of HTML/CSS/Javascript.
HackerMom/programmer/educator
Lisha introduces the basics to absolute beginners, ages 9-99. Great intro
for forward-thinking teens, designers, bloggers and anyone who uses
web technology
with a passion and now wants to dig under the hood. And she does it in an
hour, with another hour for a hands-on guided workshop. Bring your laptop.
Free for HackerMoms, $20 per class, or $50 series non-members.

*New: Thursday, June 7, 6-8pm: 50 Different Ways to Run a Hackerspace*
HackerMom/programmer/educator Lisha went to Space Camp, an unconference of
hackerspaces across the country sharing best practices (where incidentally
they thanked HackerMoms for existing, so you're welcome). Hackerspaces new,
upcoming and existing can learn from the findings of this workshop that
will present approaches to governance styles, membership, fundraising,
insurance, nonprofit status and other sexy topics that could cure your
daily headaches.
Free for HackerMoms. $12 non-members. RSVP ASAP for childcare.

*Thurs, 6/21, 6-8pm: Adobe Illustrator Workshop
*All levels welcome to bring a pet project and learn basics/tricks from
HackerMom/graphic designer Julie Tinker. Come with laptop loaded with Adobe
Illustrator.
Free for HackerMoms, $12 non-members. RSVP ASAP for childcare.

*New:** Sun, 6/24, 2-5 pm: **Wills and Estate Planning: Start to Finish in
3 hours
*Open to all! By signing up, you’re practically done. In this attorney-led
workshop, you walk out in 3 hours with your wills, power of attorney, and
health directives completed. Scott Pesetsky of SmartWills in Berkeley
created this program for parents, holds your hand through it all, and
packages it affordably at $300 per person ($260 with member discount).
Space for 12 only. Read more and sign up at
http://smartwills-hackermomsjune2012.eventbrite.com/ (Members contact us
for discount code)

RSVP ASAP for childcare at info at hackermoms.org.

*New: Thursday, June 28th, 4- 5:30: Mommy Ergonomics*
It's a secret to everyone but mothers that baby-holding and nursing tweaks
our bodies' spines, shoulders, hands and wrists, lower, mid and upper
backs. Liz Gillem Duncanson, Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainer, Strength
Coach, and Medical Yoga Provider, says, "In addition to the normal
anatomical and physiological changes that happen during and after
pregnancy, the actual movements of parenthood can cause aches and pains.
The movement patterns of caregivers are unique and can cause serious
distress on the body if not done functionally." Liz will show us the best
ways to hold baby to prevent injury. Bring your real
infants/pre-crawlers/babes-in-arms to participate, plus strollers and
carriers for specific instruction with your personal gear and body. Tell
your long-suffering mom friends.
Free for HackerMoms. $15 non-members. RSVP ASAP for childcare for older
kids.
