Hello everyone,

Just to clarify a couple of points here...

Tech Liminal is NOT a non-profit, so I can't help you get donated goods from those companies that require full-on bureaucratic prostrations.

I CAN help you collect $$ for the event (e.g. through Square, etc), but we will need to have an agreement in writing as to what is to be done w/ the money afterwards and who gets to keep what part of it. I have to record money I take in as income or reimbursements, and would prefer to keep my nose clean for tax purposes.

Getting set up with a fiscal sponsor may be the best choice if you want to be a non-profit in the long run (do you?), but this does involve a bit of work. If you're just looking for a way to save a couple of $$ on snacks and beverages for the fundraiser, it might not be the most efficient use of time.

Cheers,

Anca.

The caveat was, if I understood Anca correctly, that at least some part of the event could be considered a TechLiminal event, for tax purposes.
