FYI, in case folks are interested, though Maker Faire is apparently
problematic for some:

*sudo*room,
*Howdy! My name is Nick Normal and I'm involved with Maker
Faire<http://makerfaire.com/>,
and I'm a member of the Alpha One Labs hackerspace in Brooklyn.
I wanted to let your members know about an opportunity to attend Maker
Faire Bay Area (May 19th & 20th). The Road to Maker Faire Challenge,
presented by Esurance, is offering a $2,000 stipend for a project proposal
and build. The deadline is April 5th, and we're looking for projects that
are self-challenging to the maker, and that our audience will enjoy seeing.
I hope this doesn’t just sound like a prize pitch - it’s our first time
doing a type of “grant” or award to attend Maker Faire, so we’re still
figuring it out as we go along. We're hoping to build on this platform to
offer more Maker Faire grants in the future.
The reward can be used for airfare, accommodation, and fabrication of the
winning project, as well as for materials to design and build-out the booth. Go
here for more info <http://makezine.com/road-to-maker-faire-challenge/>,
and if there are any questions feel free to ask me. The deadline is soon I
know, but we’re hoping this might excite someone to submit an idea they’ve
been wanting to work on, or take an existing project to the next level. And
if makers already plan on attending the faire this could easily help them
with their expenses if they win.
cheers,
Nick Normal
