Yes, we absolutely do want to merge our efforts if possible! :)
Fragmentation would be sad.

Is Romain the only maintainer, or are there others? I wasn't aware of
any others (although only now I see that there are other members in the
spaceapi Github organization).

Me neither, unfortunately, and since I didn't really manage to change
that via Email and since deployment is apparently quite complex I
thought it would be better to rewrite some of those parts.

E.g. the website (https://github.com/spacedirectory/spacedirectory.org)
is now statically generated HTML using Pelican, really simple to deploy.
The API documentation is generated from the specification using a Python
script. The specification has been updated to the latest JSON schema
version. The Directory is actively maintained.

Many of the things that added complexity (e.g. the caching of directory
responses) is probably not necessary and could be left away to make
maintenance easier. The database based platform where people can
generate dynamic SpaceAPI endpoints could be replaced by a script that
generates pull requests on the fly.

We also discussed decentralization a bit - as long as the directory
consists of simple JSON files it can be hosted by anyone. Maybe adding
an automatic git sync script might help to get more "mirrors".

Regarding the code and directory, having everything in a single Github
organization with multiple active members would be good to increase the
bus factory. Doing discussions on Github probably wouldn't be too bad
either. In our case we added a "meta"-Repository:
https://github.com/spacedirectory/meta Not a lot of discussion so far
though.

If there's a way to merge our efforts, ideally under the SpaceAPI name,
please let us know!

Cheers,
Danilo
