Thank you Brooks for sharing this.  Indeed there's a self-defeating
sentiment underlying all these scandalous actions.  Rapid change in
technologies and the radical transformations that it brought to us
exacerbate the belittling of people who're not "part of it", whether
they can't cope with it and plainly fear otherness.

I guess David's pinpointing racism is right on the spot: both feelings
reinforce each other.  How is fear most effectively fought?  There's no
simple answer, but in the end love and understanding, accompanying and
not responding with indignation--not antagonizing, is probably best.

It's very hard to do, especially as the fear response triggers actions
that seem scandalous: it's hard to respond to pitches and forks with
open arms.  How would you, as hackerspaces members or collectives, try
and fix this?
