This installment of Spark (#181) has interviews with both Dale Dougherty and Mitch Altman (separately).

It Mitch's interview he states that the hacker community could easily raise $10mil outside of government funding to create the equivalent of the DARPA funded Makerspace.com project.

Ok. Lets do that.
Where can we get funding?
Goal is $10mil to be spent over, say 5 years?
Perhaps starting at $500k for initial year startup/planning and ramping up over time as more 'schools' are created.

Perhaps the schools would teach basic maker/hacker skills along with flipped classes in basic curriculum (history, writing/literature, math, etc.)- eg Khan Academy style videos watched 'at home' and discussion/practice sessions done 'in school'.
The flipped style is already very well suited to shop/programming topics of the maker/hacker community.
