I missed this one when it came out, though I'm sure those of you
who've been to 28C3 are aware of it. There's now a device sold by
Adafruit that allows video-overlay on an HDCP-encrypted stream by
doing a MITM attack using the HDCP master key. It's creator, Bunnie
Huang (reverse-engineer extraordinaire, original xbox hacker and lead
architect of the Chumby hackable internet-enabled "alarm clock"),
presents it as a legal demonstration of HDCP circumvention (my
paraphrase, read his post for the more subtle legal sidestepping).
