How big the "not invented here" problem is depends on which later of
the OSI stack you look. Layer 3 isn't too bad, but the higher ones...

In the interest of full disclosure, I have to plead guilty to this - I
just finished writing a captive portal implementation because none of
the dozen or so we looked at would do what we wanted.
I think that some people are forgetting that we live in a time when,
chances are a problem encountered has already been solved by someone
else, it's just a matter of looking at what's out there.
