I'm aware of that, but he did also say "coupled with a cordless camera….."

It's much easier to do tethered control if you're underwater. That, or
unspool an antenna wire that floats at the surface.

You'll save power with tethering as well, and you can uncoil the wire
from the surface instead of from the sub, which makes your sub
smaller.

Hell, if it's tethered, you might even get away without batteries, or
you can charge onboard batteries as the drain. Put it in 'hibernate'
mode, charge batteries, continue…..
