[hackerspaces] Electrical usage?

We have several kill a watt units.

Our laser when on basically eats up two 20 amp circuits by itself. So our
usage varies wildly based on laser use. most cnc equipment usage can do
this as well.

Been planning on doing some tweet a watt to cacti or something... but with
the number of sockets we have now it seems unlikely to be cost effective.

We are however lately discussing building some sense nets...

I'd love to see a drop in replacement outlet... as in drop into the
electrical box...

Give it a xbee to push temperature sensor (lm35?) data, light / motion data,
and optimally power use data to an embedded controller. Maybe a fonera 2.0n
unit... since we've deployed a few of these at spaces already as part of
the mesh vpn... and it has host mode usb.

If a cheap board + outlet pair could be made it would certainly be awesome.
Maybe even throw in an ac switch, so you can programatically control current
flow.

An internet of things indeed.

Around 600-1200KWh, depending on the season it seems..
