[foodhackingbase] food hacking base at 2013

Hi to all, thanks for the contributions. Sorry for taking so long, I was now enjoying some work on orange fields from morning till evening and no Internet connection at home.

My "no no" notes on the CCC camp are these:

- not sufficient amount of working space (mostly due to the fact that we needed to cater for nearly 60 people non stop and run workshop in the same time, which all could be good if the out door kitchen was finished on time, that did not happened so we were in trouble)

- no stoves. For whole event from the start to the end we did not have proper stoves, we had to run around the camp to get them all the time, waste of time etc. We need gas I think, induction and electricity options are fine as back up and help but proper gas stoves are needed. By the way we actually "had stove with oven" but it run on a wrong type of gas, had to be officially changed etc. and at the end it was ready for use at the last day I think.

- way to much equipment (and money spend for it) which was actually not used during the event (that was mostly my thing)

- hot water for cleaning was something what would be lovely

So now to this camp. My suggestion would be to continue to move towards workshop and experimental food&brew hacking based place with talks and having enough capacity to provide food for the food hacking base community (fhb) and some associated people. Also at least one bigger event/party would be good idea I think. If we go this way than we will need some budget to make it happen, we will most likely need to combine resources - donation before the event (both which are non refundable and the ones which we would give back), donations during the event and I think kick starter may be a good idea.

I would like to ask Evina if she can send me the contact on the OHM 2013 organization/catering team, I will also ask the folk from CCC and I will contact them. Did you actually get some response already Evina? If we can get access to the equipped kitchen than the things would be much more easy but if we have to create whole kitchen than we will need more time for preparation and resources.

Thanks to everyone for the contributing, I'm sorry that the last time it was not as good as it should it was my first big hacker camp and food&hacking project and it was visible, I believe that we can do it better this time, it is always my hope :-) (and also this time there would be more people involved from beginning which is great!)

Talk to you soon, within a week.

Sincerely,

FAA

PS Beautiful selection of workshops Debra, I wonder if there will be something left for me to teach and share :-) Also to Evina, you being in Holland can help enormously with organization depending on your time availability. Also more money we can get in advance and preferably non refundable, more easy life.

Hi Evina, Franticek, Everyone Else,

I'm in this year as well - and agree with Evina regarding infra-prep for the camp.
In the mean time I've been producing the ferments for the VOKOMOKUM (~ 250 families in Amsterdam) for 1,5 years now and can give workshops on the following:
 - ginger beer (non-alcoholic)
 - kombucha
 - kefir (water, milk)
 - kimchi
 - krauts
 - tempeh
 - different (sourdough) breads
 - oven building

Also URBANIAHOEVE has a fermentation workshop programme as part of its regular urban agriculture programming - lots of workshops all over town. So I'm equipped to roll out if that's considered desirable. Have equipment - also fun stuff from our DIY Mmmmuseum of Oven Typologies (public space cooking equipment) and I could bring things like a roti plateen or some mankouche ovens.

I will need to arrange transport for the STUFFIE-STUFF because J and I are coming by bike - because it is our much-needed HOLIDAY.

Looking forward to the summer!

Warm regards,

Debra
