Hello from Denmark!
This new initiative (below) is founded by the folks responsible for the
SOPA website blackouts. They're designing an alert system as well as
javascript tools to facilitate future blackouts for protesting the next
SOPA/PIPA/ACTA.
Thoughts on the security of such a system?
Also, Marc and I attended HOPE (Hackers on Planet Earth) #9 this past
weekend. One of the best conferences I've ever attended. Some highlights in
my tweetar feed: http://twitter.com/tunabananas :)
See y'all in August!

Dear IDL member,
The Internet Defense League is officially launching tomorrow, Thursday July
19th. This is our time to celebrate and tell the world we're here.
When FFTF organized the first online protest against SOPA (American
Censorship Day) we had no idea it would work, and it took a lot of luck to
pull it off. The League changes that. From today onward, if there's
another terrible bill that would hurt the internet, we'll all be ready.
Millions of users will see the alert and take action, on the front pages of
sites they love.
And it's not just about defense; the League will be a positive force too.
If there's an unmissable opportunity to make the web better, the League can
help seize it by spreading the word.
So, will you help us launch? We have cat signal modals, banners, and
badges you can use to announce your membership and recruit more members on
your site:
Then, in real life, we're crowd-funding IDL launch parties with actual
giant spotlights beaming our cat-signal into the skies, in New York, San
Francisco, Ulaar Bataar Mongolia (yes, Mongolia) and anywhere else where
IDL members want to throw a party. Donors get prizes, like a t-shirt or a
tiny spotlight. Can you help us reach our goal?

Thanks again for being a member! Hope you can join us for tomorrow's
launch! Watch for pictures and updates by following #netfreedom or #idl
Sincerely,
Holmes Wilson, Tiffiniy Cheng, Rainey Reitman, The Internet Defense League
& EFF
