[hackerspaces] Experience with Borrowing equipment/stuff?

At c-base we don't lend anything to our crew. It usually doesn't come back.
Every rule has an exception, so well trusted members can sometimes take hand-tools (not machines) for less then two days, if permission is asked and others are informed via the appropriate mailinglists.
We don't lend out machines, no exceptions. If you need to lend a machine, go to your next home-depo like shop and rent the machine.
If a lot of c-base crew goes to an event, we do take tools and machines, but this is different, because that is then an EVA (Extra vehicular activity) and is not considered lending or borrowing, but a c-base mission, so we can take c-base equipment.

I don't think we would allow anyone to 'borrow' larger installed equipment like a laser cutter or CNC router.
