[hackerspaces] sexual harrasment

Sexual harassment is a legal term in the United States. Maybe lawyers on the list could give us a full legal description, but my non-lawyer understanding is that has a very specific definition that has serious legal consequences. You probably shouldn't use the term lightly (if you're in the US, you just admitted to sexual harassment issues in writing in a public forum. That could mean poof, no more hackerspace).

I think what you're looking for is a discussion of misogyny in hacker culture, in which case you're probably going to get a little if what you're looking for mixed in with a good old-fashioned flame war.

I have yet to have a discussion like this in a public space that didn't devolve quickly, which in itself is a sad statement.

Subject: [hackerspaces] sexual harrasment

How do you deal with sexual harassment at your spaces? What is consider sexual harassment? Here were we live, subtle cases that are indeed harassment and bother people, are not taken into consideration. We have a male chauvinist culture where people consider this kind of behavior funny, a joke, celebratory. And woman don't want to be "too serious" saying anything about it. They'd rather just laugh.
