Protip: Keep your plugins and theme up to date. Use standard/actively
maintained stuff only.

At awesomeretro.com we're using 50+ plugins. A number of things you
might want to consider installing:

Additional Image Sizes (zui)
Better WP Security
Contact Form 7
JS & CSS Script Optimizer
NextGEN Gallery
Redirection
TimThumb Vulnerability Scanner
Ultimate TinyMCE
WP Super Cache

And visit any of the wordpress optimization websites for some
tutorials on how to use caching etc :)
