[hackerspaces] Embedded filesystem in executable

Hello,

I've got a binary in front of my nose, which contains lots of references to
resources (such as png files, jpegs, but also .so files) which are nowhere
to be found. Is it possible to embed those in some vfs in the binary? If
yes, which techniques are common/uncommon, ... ?

(where do I need to start to get things out of it)
