Hey ho! all those hackers close to Amsterdam next month, you are all
invited to the next …
PiXXXeL
made in Am★dam (and beyond…)
… on 12 May 15:00 - 22:00 @ NIMk.nl hacking into
Milkymist – Open Hardware VJ Station
http://pixxxel.net/milkymist-open-hardware-vj-station
After years of passionate and engaging development, the first model
of a Milkymist VJ station is finally ready to be shown and tried by
the public!
This time at PiXXXeL we’ll host a visit of LeKernel in person, the
infatiguable Milkymist developer best known for running day long
workshops of FPGA programming all over the World, mesmerizing
audiences of geeks with the psychedelic outputs of his small
devices.
So the next PiXXXeL will be on 12 May @ NIMk: we will start at
15:00 as usual, when LeKernel will introduce us with a short
presentation of the latest version of Milkymist, then we’ll have a
worksop on how to operate and customize the device, to produce some
funky setups that we will use later on during the evening in a
small Milkymist party, starting at 20:00 and running until 22:00,
to which everyone is invited.
It will be quite an intense day, bring your own cameras and video
sources to feed into Milkymist!
From a technical point of view Milkymist has a lot of potential for
customization into your own video manipulation projects, being an 100%
open source system-on-chip (SoC) whose design was written in Verilog
HDL, so one can extend it with his/her own logic blocks. Under the hood
of this open-hardware device there is a pulsating LatticeMico32
processor core, which is capable of executing complex, fully-fledged
software (including nommu Linux) and comes with an extensive set of
custom-built peripherals and graphics accelerators.
