[hackerspaces] Hackerspace Awards: Selection

What would be an ideal way to select recipients for these awards?

Maybe one willing volunteer from each hackerspace votes for a nominated project?

Perhaps we could ask a magazine (Make, PopSci, PopMech, etc) to serve as selectors, and potentially get some recognition and free publicity for our hackerspaces in their publication?
