I think there would be plenty of room there to sit in without being burdensome. One of the classes I took last semester was "full" and although there were supposed to be maybe 70 people in the class, there couldn't have been more than 30 in class every day. I've definitely been trying not to add to the TAs work load because I know how difficult it is for them already, so I was kind of expecting to play it by ear in terms of how much more integrated I could get into the rest of the class. My experience last semester was that the TA's were really excited to have someone in their discussion sections/class who wanted to be there and was excited instead of just fulfilling a requirement. They were all really accommodating and super generous. In the end, though, all that I was doing was sitting in on lectures, sitting in on discussions, occasionally raising my hand to answer a question, and doing the homeworks on my own time. There wasn't much that I really needed from anybody, so I felt like one more body in the room wasn't really adversely affecting anyone. I suppose we can show up and see how it feels?<div class="im">

Most of you probably don't really know me--I've only been by<br>

Last fall I sat in on a few CS classes at UC Berkeley. I've<br>
always been kind of a half-assed programmer and I realized<br>
that if I ever wanted to be more serious about it, there were<br>
some gaps in my knowledge base that needed filling in. So last<br>
semester I sat in on "EE 122 Networking", "CS 61C Machine<br>
Structures", and "CS 161 Computer Security". It turns out that<br>
without actually ever really having to come into contact with<br>
any professor, I was able to coordinate with TAs in these<br>
classes and participate in all of the labs, do all of the<br>
homeworks, and do all of the projects (albeit they were group<br>
projects I was doing by myself....). I never had to apply,<br>
register, pay or deal with any of the other administrative BS<br>
that normally accompanies higher ed.<br>

I'm planning on sitting in on a few more classes this semester<br>
and wanted to see if anyone else was interested. So far I'm<br>
thinking "CS 162 Operating Systems and System Programming",<br>
and "CS 164 Programming Languages and Compilers." The full<br>
