David: The electric strike wont work because of the kind of door it is. Replacing the bar is really the best solution so far.

Steve: buying a ton of keys is just not sustainable, and doesn't give us a way to easily revoke access if we need to.

Marc: I'm of the opinion that we should just present this solution to the group at the meeting on Wednesday. I know that there are people willing to front the costs and work to get them recouped later (whether it's through a deal with other tenants or a budget decision through sudo room).

You will also have to add to that the cost of automatic locks for the internal doors. If we keep the elevator up we need two.. down we only need one.

--Andrew

Just a thought, but for $850 you could buy a lot of conventional key.

On Tue, Nov 20, 2012 at 12:31 PM, Marc Juul <juul@labitat.dk> wrote:
It seems like they don't sell a kit to turn a regular pushbar into an
electric pushbar, so we'll have to get a new pushbar with the electric
option. They're a bit over $600:

http://buyaccess.com/adams-rite-8600lr-narrow-stile-electric-latch-retraction-concealed-vertical-rod-exit-device?gdftrk=gdfV22700_a_7c1040_a_7c4922_a_7c8600LR

We should probably just get their official bendy-cable to run the
power to it as well, since it's only $17:

http://buyaccess.com/securitron-tsb-c-door-cord-w-grey-black-caps

The electronic pushbar requires 28 VDC. The official power supply is
crazy overpriced at $380:

http://buyaccess.com/adams-rite-ps-lr-power-supply

Unfortunately we'll void the warranty on the pushbar if we use any
other power supply. I still think we should find a different 28 VDC
power supply.

That puts our total at around $700 including tax and shipping.
Installation should be free since George the landlord will have it
installed for us.

Then comes the computer hardware. Susan suggested a Beagle bone, which
costs about $80. We could add a wifi usb adapter to avoid running wire
to the door, and I'm sure we have those lying around. Then we need the
28 VDC power supply and a relay. The relay is close to free, but I
don't know where we'd get the 28 VDC power supply or how much that
will cost us. Any ideas?

Let's add another $50 for magnetic stripe card and/or rfid reader.
That'll be about $850 total, excluding the power supply (maybe we know
someone who has a 28-30 VDC power supply of some not-insignificant
amperage lying around?).

Now the question is: Do we just go ahead and order this stuff? Or does
anyone know anyone who might be able to get this done for less?
