<div dir="ltr"><div><div><div><div>Another datapoint,<br><br></div>Many hackerspaces (and list members here) don't necessarily know what 501c3 is -- they are international hackerspaces that may organize as various types of NGOs in the country they are based in. <br>
<br>There are features about international hackspaces that USA based spaces can learn about here & now, like how Florencia organizes the hackerspace she works with in Chile or what an Engetragener Verein (e. V.) is and why it's so popular in Germany. <br>
<br>I would love to see how the legal framework differs around the globe, and find out how to draw anything good from one place to the other for inclusion/addition to the legal frameworks we try to exploit for spaces in various regions of the USA.<br>

We sent our application in for Tampa Hackerspace at the end of December. The last week of February, we received a letter acknowledging receipt. The letter said that it would take either three or six months to process depending on if anything in the application was flagged. There was no indication which path we were selected for.
<br>
<br>It did say that after six months, if we've heard nothing, we would be welcome to call to follow up.
<br>
<br>So, if the letter is true, elapsed times of 5-8 months are not unheard of. The couple of applications I reviewed as part of our submission were actually done in about three months so there is hope.
