For our SpaceAPI we poll our public events Google calendar to
determine if we're 'open' or not, which is to say we're 'Open to the
Public', or 'Closed to the public; Open for members' which is our
default status.
is at our space or not could be a bad idea. I know that it's not
likely the app would be used for that but the risk is there. I'm
open to hearing reason why I should not be concerned about this.
We already have a page where our members can check to see if
someone is at our space or not. We just tell people about it when
they ask instead of posting it on our website. Perhaps a method of
approval would work so we can at least keep track of who is
requesting access. If a member of another hackerspace wants to
know when we are open I feel like at least they have a reason for
knowing. However if some crackhead in Baltimore stumbles across
our website and notices that there is an app that tells him when
we are open or not then I would not want him to have access to
that information.

idea of being on a list so people know they can request access
to our status so it would be better in my opinion if something
was implemented in the main app.
