We use Z-Wave so currently it would be automatic but it could be a switch. I was thinking that the switch would never get used or someone would leave it on. So I was thinking automatic would be the only way it would be used properly. I could implement a switch to disable it for an 1hr at a time to respect privacy.

At i3detroit, we realized pretty quickly that an automatic system (I had originally suggested a HacDC-style motion detector) would not respect the privacy of members who wished to work in the space, perhaps alone, without announcing their presence to the world.

So we implemented a simple switch, by the door, which sets the website statusbox to "open for guests" or "closed to guests". It's purely voluntary, and a fair number of members don't use it. If we ever get around to implementing SpaceAPI, it'll run from this same status bit.
Is there anyway to password protect the status of a space? We want to let our members know when we are there or not but not the general public. For security reasons we don't think it's smart to announce that information to the world.
