I am part of a group trying to start a space in Kansas... now I have no idea what to call it. I will be sad if what we call ourselves ends up getting us removed from hackerspaces.org. We even switched our meeting venue because the free wifi blocked access to hackerspaces.org and we couldn't live with that...

The distinctions you're drawing here are yours alone, and poor ones.
No one else has suggested the dividing line that you're describing
here. There are a hundred factors that make a space more
hackerspace-y, and freeside and nycresistor both have 90 of them,
while geniuscorps has 2 of them. there's a line somewhere between
those two numbers that should be the bar for inclusion on the wiki.
