The furthest back I can find the roots for H+ are in Russian Cosmism - not Ray Kurzweil, who brought it into a sort of pop culture. Cosmism has really strange, strange overlaps with religion in the same way the Mormon church has a branch that is Transhumanist. I shit you not.<br>
<br>After years of being really invested in the H+ community, I got kind of jaded. The idea of "in the Future, everything will work!" that prevails is tiresome. It's what finally brought me to hackerspaces... people who are actually making a future instead of privileged white kids sitting around discussing what other people have built. Maybe it's changed by now. That would be cool.<br>

guess so. i've always been, but didn't know before moving to SF since I never heard any of this stuff articulated while in europe. wouldn't hurt if someone who truly knows the subject gave an overview talk at a CCC camp/congress (or sent a mail summary here to start). <div>
