Oh this DARPA stuff disturbs me on the deepest level.
Kind of like how hollywood apparently owns the internet... of course that was DARPANET at one point...

Has any HSpaces taken advantage of this?
Seems like it totally reinforces the negative hacker connotation - but in a sense that the government has now recruited one "evil" to combat another like terrorism or some non-US country. Talk about kill the global sense of community.

Honestly - I'd protest and bail from any organization or company or initiative (regardless of the benefits) that gets involved with making things that kill other human critters.
It's not a big anti-military kind of opinion... so please don't take it that way - but rather I want nothing to directly do with death and destruction in any form for any cause.

I'd like to see the hackerspace community steer clear of military stuff, personally. If we let ourselves be involved in helping our nations' militaries, it's only a matter of time before the members of one hackerspace are responsible for the death of a member in another hackerspace. I'd like to think we can transcend that and work towards helping people do good/useful things.

You miss the point entirely. Makerspaces (aka, "hackerspaces") are
good things with tremendous potential for educating people.

By using the term "hacker" you drive people away without ever getting
a chance at recruiting them. All over a word. Is that what you want?
Actually, we're all doing fine. Thanks for your concern. We're quite happy with how it is. Feel free to stop.

What hackerspace are you actually a member of?
