I bought a refrigerator, started stocking it with soda, and put up an honor system can for money, asking for a dollar a soda. It became a nice money maker and was a very convenient way to buy things for the space without going through the bureaucratic annoyances of a purchase with official funds. I've since handed off management to someone else and he expanded it to food, candy bars, and energy drinks.
At Crashspace, we subsist entirely on soda, beer, peanut-butter filled pretzels, and nuts from our kitchen. On those rare occasions it's not enough, we go to local food counters Bawarchi (a lunch counter with vegetarian indian) and Gabby's (falafel house).
