In the USA, if you do not have a Professional Engineer license, you cannot
practice as an engineer.

For example, you cannot start your own company and call it an engineering
firm, or advertise yourself as an engineer.

It's similar to a doctor and a lawyer. Lots of people have job titles that
involve engineering, or even are "engineer",
but they are not technically engineers.

"If you don't drive a train or have a PE license, you are not an engineer"
